Frames care rooms
Every GALLERYOILART painting can be ordered as a rolled canvas, an unframed canvas or a framed painting. Adding a frame costs only about 1–6% more than the unframed price, and a rolled canvas costs roughly half the unframed price.
Care guide
An oil painting lasts for generations with a little care. These habits matter most.
- Keep it out of direct sunlight. Strong light fades colors over time.
- Avoid heat and damp. Do not hang it above a stove, radiator, fireplace or in a bathroom without ventilation. Sudden changes in temperature and humidity can crack paint.
- Dust gently. Use a soft, dry brush or a clean microfiber cloth. Never use water, soap, alcohol or household cleaners.
- Handle by the edges. Avoid touching the painted surface, and support the painting from behind when you move it.
- Protect textured areas. On textured and 3D paintings, do not press on the raised paint.
- Hang it securely. Use wall anchors rated for the weight, and check the fixings once a year.
- Unroll a rolled canvas right away. Lay it face up on a clean, flat surface and leave it to relax for [[FILL: e.g. 24–48 hours]] before it goes to your framer.
- If it arrives damaged, email info@galleryoilart.com with photos of the painting and the packaging. Please do not try to repair paint yourself.
Art by room
Aim for a painting about two-thirds to three-quarters of the width of the furniture beneath it, and hang its center at about 57 inches (145 cm) from the floor. The sizes below are all available. See the size and price guide for the full list.
| Room and wall | Sizes that work (inches) |
|---|---|
| Living room, above a sofa | 72 in sofa: horizontal 48 × 32 or 54 × 36. 84 in sofa: horizontal 60 × 40 or panoramic 60 × 30. |
| Entryway or hallway | Above a 48 in console: horizontal 36 × 24. On a narrow wall: vertical 24 × 36 or 30 × 40. |
| Bedroom, above a queen bed | Horizontal 40 × 30 or 48 × 32. For a wide, calm look: panoramic 48 × 24. |
| Dining room, above a sideboard | Horizontal 40 × 30 or 48 × 32. A set of two suits a long wall. |
| Home office | Horizontal 36 × 24 or 40 × 30. Square 30 × 30 for a small wall. |
| Stairway or tall wall | Vertical 36 × 54 or 40 × 60. |
Style ideas by mood
- Calm and quiet: neutral and blue paintings suit bedrooms and offices.
- Bold statement: western and cowboy art, pop art and abstract art give a living room or entryway a focal point.
- Texture and depth: textured and 3D art looks different as the light changes during the day.
Tip: mark the size on your wall with paper or painter's tape before you order, and live with it for a day.
